Niños employees enjoy a dinner. |
I would like to inform you that with a heavy heart I am leaving this institution, a place that has represented something unique in my life. I wish to thank you for the opportunity and development of being on board this noble cause of giving a golden opportunity to children who, due to various situations, have had a stormy past. However, not everything is the beautiful paradise that we sometimes think the children find.
When I entered this institution I was grateful for the vocation of the staff to give
not only physical and mental health, but also a closer relationship with God and spiritual peace. Everything changed when, as time went by, I could see how this identity, which is characteristic of most of the employees, became chaotic. I was able to observe on many occasions, and with pain in my heart, abuses of power and favoritism, triggering differences and in many cases discrimination even when we all work for the same objective and that despite this, many times these people have acted in a way that they do not deserve to bear the title and honor of being Christians.
As time goes by within the institution, and it is not a secret for many, you find out about many things, starting with the shady origin of the institution and ending with the worst activities that continue to be perpetuated internally. Starting with the ineptitude and poor management of our administrative director Juan Manuel, which is characterized by a corrupt system of favoritism and promotion of all employees who empathize with his way of thinking and which he protects despite the fact that in many cases they do not have the profile for the position or have done actions that would merit immediate dismissal.
On the other hand is the advantage he takes of the benefits of the institution, since he always boasts of having a humble salary that in reality represents a fairly high sum and that he does not compensate with his work, and not stopping there, he lives in the institution and it pays for all his services and provides him with a car for his personal use and curiously supplies him with gasoline per week equivalent to 2000 pesos. At the same time, he misuses his work team (multidisciplinary team) and keeps them busy with the activities that are “supposed” to be part of their job. I'll start here because I think that this is the origin of everything that is rotten in the institution. However, all of this is also maintained by our boss Steve, who has given Juan all the freedom to move as he pleases.
I would like to go into more depth on the issue of the misappropriation of money or the poor financial management maintained by the accountant, but I could not justify it. Apart from that, I was able to observe and learn about the high amounts of money that have had to be paid in taxes that are delayed and generate interest due to not paying them on time. And I do not mention this to make the accountant look bad, but because of the budget cuts and low salaries that are paid to his employees, knowing that more is spent on other projects that are not worth it and that keep our children's homes very limited.
This brings us to the management of each home, as we can begin with the tutors, a staff made up of a strange combination of employees who do not fit the profile and/or have been abusive and violent towards our beneficiaries. While there are also people who work hard for the children on a daily basis, it is also a reality that they are kept in rather complicated working conditions, such as the case of the auxiliary and substitute tutors who work more than 12 hours and are paid very little. Even when the intention is to hire trained tutors, it is difficult to keep them, as they arrive with all the desire to contribute something to the children and realize that the system makes them hit a wall, wearing them out and finally they leave the institution. We see this reflected in the constant rotation of staff and that it is difficult for these good tutors to get a position as principals.
With these lines I say sign off, hoping that this information will be helpful in making some changes to this institution and that it will be on the right path and be geared towards the well-being of children and not of people who are only looking for financial gain.
Thank you brother Eric, for maintain us inform about information happening in NdeM. since the institution it self doesn't inform anybody outside its own selected group. I'm also willing to share some information with you, and to anybody who is genuinely interested about some of my own efforts, offered to the institution, in another Text or message.
